The English Golf Union's Central Database of Handicaps (CDH)

Every new member now has their own unique CDH ID number. This number will continue to be a player's unique ID as long as he or she remains a member of an EGU affiliated club. This means that should you visit any affiliated cub eg. for an Open Competition, you no longer need to take a handicap certificate for verification purposes. If you provide the club with your unique ID they will be able to access your current playing handicap.

In addition you can also access your latest handicap through EGU Golf Central. Simply visit www.egugolfcentral.co.uk and click 'New User' Just fill in the required details, including your unique CDH ID numbere and at any point in the future you will be able to login and check your latest handicap.

To obtain your unique number, just ask Chris Liberty or Roger Stone. Alternatively you can access it from the PSI terminal in the foyer of the main club house.

Annual Review of Handicaps - scheduled for January 4th 2012

The Annual Review is an important element of the Unified Handicapping System (UHS). It is the process by which the Handicap Committee reviews, and adjusts as necessary, the handicaps of all Members to ensure that, as far as practicable, they reflect current playing ability. It is the aim of The Senior Handicap Committee in line with the Men’s Committee to complete this process by the end of January.
The Annual Report – has been produced by the CONGU licensed software
This report has been designed to assist Clubs in carrying out the Annual Review by providing a computer program that "flags up" players who, through the period, have performed better than (or worse than) expectations. It is based on player’s performance in all the qualifiers they entered during 2010.
The purpose is to identify:
• players whose general playing performance is better than expected for their handicap category. REDUCE?
• players whose general playing performance is poorer than expected for their handicap category. INCREASE?
This list must not be taken as automatic authority to adjust handicaps. All relevant handicap information about the player should be considered before an adjustment is applied.
• consideration must also be given to other achievements. e.g. match play and four ball events
• it is as important to identify players of declining ability as it is improvers

Stage 1 uses the Club 2000 software to produce a list of players who should be considered for handicap increase or decrease.

Stage 2 is to give you an opportunity to make the Handicap Committee aware of any additional factors that could influence them before they make their decisions. These factors might be:
• a decline in your performance due to illness, age or injury – particularly true if you have played few qualifiers
• notable performances in non qualifying events e.g. match play, knock outs, four ball events etc.

Stage 3 the committees final decision on handicap changes will be completed by the end of January.

So if you want to discuss any of the above with a member of the committee please do so ASAP.
