Welcome to Farrington Senior Section
Qualifying as a member of the Farrington Senior Section is dependent on being a paid up member of Farrington Golf Club who is 55 years or more paying an additional yearly subscription of £10
Once this is done then your name will be entered in the Senior Register and held as part of the senior section membership scheme. You can then participate in events organised by the Senior Committee e.g. Weekly Competitions/Matches/Away Days/Xmas Lunch....

Farrington Senior Competitions

Weekly competitions and knock outs are organised by the Match Secretary - Ray Vickers 01761 416749

To participate in competitons and senior events you need to be a registered Senior Member

Weekly Wednesday Competitions + draw and start times

To enter the weekly Wednesday morning competions enter your name on the appropriate sheet on the Senior Notice Board one week in advance of the competition date. The Competition Secretary will draw for start times by the previous Wednesday and post the times on the Senior Notice Board. You will need to arrive on the Wednesday morning at least fifteen minutes prior to this time to pay your entry fee, collect your score card, secure your entry and meet at the start tee with your playing partners. Late arrivals will be substituted as appropriate. Late entries are accepted on the day but early arrival is advised as players are entered (in rota) into last minute gaps and then tagged onto the end. In the event of it being a team competition we cannot guarantee it being possible to accommodate late entries if there is the wrong number of seniors to give a complete team.
The current entry fee for the Wednesday Competitions is £2.50 + 50p for Captains Charity Raffle.

It is clearly most helpful if people avoid dropping out of team games wherever possible. By not turning up you leave your partners without an opportunity to compete, and you owe it to them to delete yourself from the competition as soon as you know you are unavailable. Ray can arrange substitutes but he clearly needs as much warning as possible. The prefered means of cancelling are:-

  1. To cross off your name on 'the competition list' before Monday
  2. To ring Ray at home before Monday - tel: 01761 416749
  3. To contact Ray or the days organiser by 8.00 on the Wednesday morning. The new number for cancelling on the day is 0781 2859229 AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED ON MATCH DAYS.

If you wish to play in the above competition add your name to reserve list on the senior notice board, and turn up as early as possible on the day (by at least 7.55) when Ray will fit you in as appropriate. Reserves will be slotted into teams on a first come basis on the Wednesday morning. DO NOT insert your name in spaces made by people cancelling as Ray will have prepared the score cards in advance and this can cause problems with handicaps, seeding etc.

Farrington Seniors Results for Wednesday 20th July 2011 - Captains Day - Green Tees

Senior Captains Day
74 seniors joined Captain Mike Astle on a wet Wednesday morning in a novel bowmaker competition. Playing in teams of three the scoring process for each hole was only revealed on the tee of the next hole. Sometimes double points, sometimes only one to count and other permutations built up the tension as each groups round progressed. The winning teams accumulated 129 points was helped by a sterling 45 points from ex Senior Captain Mike Hedges.
Captain Mike rewarded the players with an after match hot dog or beef burger – many seniors found they couldn’t resist topping up with additional barbequed food..
Numerous bottles of wine were presented for the top individual stableford scores as well as team prizes.
Despite the rain everyone agreed it was a very enjoyable day. Congratulations Captain Mike for organizing such an imaginative format.

Tantalus Mike Hedges 45 points

3rd place Dave Taylor 42 points

Handicap Guidelines
Farrington Seniors’ Handicap Committee: Roger Stone / Mike Astle / Rob Thain
Any of the above can be approached for advice on handicaps e.g. how to get your first handicap, the procedures for handicap adjustments on medical grounds, the implications of opting to submit supplementary cards etc. They will consider any request to adjust handicaps (either up or down) but you must realise that this can only be done within the strict rules set down by CONGU. Some of your questions may be answered by the guidelines set out below:
The committee keep a record on the computer of all your scores from qualifiers, but if you have additional evidence e.g. scores from home/away courses etc., please give them to any member of the committee so that they can be considered as evidence for changes to your handicap. The committee can not make handicap cuts on one isolated good score so you must provide compelling evidence of your improvement (e.g. two or preferably more good cards over a short period).

So how do you first get a handicap?

Basically you must complete at least three rounds and get a fellow player who has a handicap to sign your card during a round of golf to ratify your score. You must make it clear which tees you use. One of these cards will need to be about 100 shots or less. These cards are used to determine your initial handicap. The senior Website www.farringtonseniors.co.uk gives exact details of how your handicap is calculated.
Any fully completed and signed cards that you wish to be considered as evidence for obtaining a handicap should be submitted to any member of the Senior Handicap Committee.

How Can We Ensure Handicaps Are Reflective of Playing Ability?

  • Every player will endeavour to make the best score they can at each hole in every qualifying round and report all rounds for handicapping purposes.
  • Every Golf Club will, whenever possible run stroke play competitions as qualifying competitions, calculate a CSS and make all handicap adjustments strictly in accordance with the UHS
  • Every player will return a sufficient number of qualifying scores to provide reasonable evidence of their playing ability.

The CONGU Unified Handicap System 2008-11 has introduced a number of new clauses, which prescribe the way we handle handicaps, the significant clauses are:-

Clause 17.3 – Qualifying Scores / Qualifying Competitions
The declaration that a competition is a Non Qualifying Competition disqualifies all scores returned in that competition being used directly for handicap purposes. Performance in Non Qualifying Competitions is one of a number of factors to be considered in the Annual Review of Members’ handicaps.

Clause 19 - Stableford Adjustment

  • All stroke play scores shall be converted to stableford points for handicapping purposes.
  • Applies to Away Scores as well as scores returned at the Home Club.
  • It is imperative members submit all completed holes into the system as this may prevent an increase in handicap or in some cases result in a decrease in handicap.

How does it affect your handicap?
Even in medal play a no score or a 12 on 1 hole will do no more damage than a 0 on a stableford card. So in a medal it is possible to return a card with one or more disastrous holes yet remain in the buffer zone or even merit a handicap cut. ONE OR MORE POOR HOLE SHOULD NO LONGER JUSTIFY A N/R. because this will automatically produce a 0.1 HCP increase. To protect your handicap you need to enter scores for every hole you play.

Clause 21 - Supplementary Scores
‘The Clause that helps members to submit qualifying scores to ensure handicaps are reflective of their current competitive playing ability’
This is explained fully below.

Clause 23 – Review of Handicaps
Annual Review
The Annual Handicap review is designed to ensure that members have handicaps that are reflective of their current playing ability. This is based on:
· Players scores returned in qualifying competition
· Performances in singles and better ball match play events
· Scores returned in Social golf must not be used
· An Annual Review Report is now included in software to aid Committees in the review

Farrington Annual Review of Handicaps
In January the Handicap Committee will use the computer to analyse the previous years records for all members and produce “The Annual Review Report”. The report is a list of all members who should be considered for a handicap change. It does this by producing a “Performance against Target” analysis. Don’t ask me how it does this!!!! The resulting figure, which is a mathematical comparison of the year’s competition results for each member, indicates whether they are eligible for an increase or decrease in their handicap and suggests the amount of the change. The committee uses this figure and a range of other evidence provided to them e.g. performances in non-qualifying competitions including Knock Outs, 4BBB Competitions, requests to raise handicaps on age or medical grounds etc. to inform them.
General Play Revisions of handicap are not subject to appeal as long as they are carried out within the CONGU rules.

Clause 23 – General Play Adjustment
General Play adjustments should only be made through the playing season under exceptional circumstances.
This may include:
· A member requiring adjustment for medical reasons.
· Member given initial handicap that from qualifying scores returned is not reflective of current ability.
· The return of a series of good scores in Qualifying Competitions within a short timeframe by an infrequent competitor.
· Players may be infrequent competitors in Qualifying Competitions and so have few opportunities to reduce their handicap in line with their improved standard of play. They may compete frequently, however, with success in other forms of golf and their handicap may require further adjustment to reflect this.

Active/Inactive Handicaps
As of 2010 the English Golf Union & English Women’s Golf Association will be implementing an active/inactive handicapping system.

Rational
To enable Clubs to identify whether a player has submitted a number of qualifying scores per year to ensure their handicap is reflective of their current playing ability without the need to lapse a handicap.
IT IS NOT A FORM OF LAPSING

Operation
· Applies to players in all handicap categories 1-4(5).
· Players will be required to submit 3 qualifying scores per year (Supplementary Scores & 9 Hole Qualifying events included). Failure to do so will lead to an inactive handicap.
· An inactive handicap will disappear for the year on the submission of 3 qualifying scores.
· Qualifying scores will be accepted from both Home & Away qualifying competitions.
· Handicap certificates will identify whether a player has an inactive handicap e.g. 12.4 i
· Clubs may impose a condition that prevents players with inactive handicaps entering events (not however permitted to make it a blanket condition).
· Inactive handicaps may still be used for golfing holidays, social trips where handicap certificates are required.
· Players may have an inactive handicap removed because of a medical exemption.
· The EGU will monitor the situation and will decide whether to increase the number of qualifying scores from 3.

How does it affect you as a senior?
If you fail to complete at least three qualifying competitions this year, next year you will be credited with an INACTIVE handicap which will make you ineligible to enter many competitions e.g. the Senior Opens for most other clubs. Farrington Seniors have taken a view on inactive handicaps and members with inactive handicaps will be ineligibile for our major competitions? (e.g. K.O’s, Senior Club Championship etc.)

Summary
A CONGU handicap is based on the ability of a player in qualifying competitions, not social golf.
The introduction of Supplementary Scores, 9 hole qualifying competitions and the EGU active/inactive handicap system should lead to more members returning qualifying information and less use of General Play adjustment by Handicapping Committees.
This in turn should lead to a more unified system of handicapping.

EGU Central Handicap Database (CHD)
When Farrington Golf Club uploads the new Club 2000 update in January 2009 it will include the new CHD module. Every golf club will be given it’s own unique ID number and every club golfer will also be given his own unique ID number (10 characters long). Plastic cards with their own unique ID number will be issued to all members. This unique ID number will follow you if you move to another club as will all your qualifying handicap and competition records. The Central Handicap Database holds the records of every golfer in every club in England.

By going online members can use their unique ID number to:-
· View their current handicap
· View their complete record of competition scores
· Request handicap certificates
· There may be an option to access handicap changes by SMS text

Clubs can view handicaps of any English Club Golfer from their name/dob and also find that golfers unique ID number.

In future clubs will almost certainly ask for your unique ID number when you enter Open competitions, as this will enable them-to:-
· Establish if you have an active handicap (usually a requirement of entry)
· Simplify the entry of away players details into the computer and check on their handicap
· Automatically return your competition score to your home club for handicap changes

Qualifying Competitions
The majority of changes to Seniors’ Handicaps is expected to take place as a result of taking part in qualifying competitions. Such competitions are the Wednesday monthly medal / monthly stableford, Senior Opens and other Farrington weekend qualifiers. The scores from any qualifier are entered into the computer and after comparing the score to the computer produced ‘Competition Scratch Score’ the computer applies a calculation and automatically adjusts handicaps. Any changes will be posted on the Senior Notice Board.

General Play
Any fully completed and signed cards that you wish to be considered as evidence for handicap changes should be submitted to any member of the Senior Handicap Committee. Since the latest directive from the EGU is that 'Scores returned in Social Golf must not be used to adjust handicaps' These cards can only be used as part of the evidence for the Annual Handicap Review held in January.
REMEMBER: Reduction in Handicap is a reward not a penalty

What value do we put on a handicap?

An extract from the English Golf Union Website helps us to understand how we value a handicap.

“The way the CONGU system works is that a typical Category 1 player is expected to play about 2 strokes above his handicap on an average day. Category 4 players can expect a short fall of about 6 or 7. Put another way a player who finds that he plays to an average handicap of 28 will probably find that he has a handicap of 21/22.”

Senior Players starting 2012 with an Inactive Handicap
J Allman R Andrews G Balmforth P Bishop D Brain K Crouch
J Curtis R Curtis B Francis D Godfrey G Harvey R Irving
M Jones R Landridge B Owen A Ponfield K Randell G Robinson
C Rylance K Seery G Symes D Vaughan D Warren L Young
P Michael

Players with an inactive handicap will not be permitted to enter The Senior 18 hole and 9 hole Club Championship, The Senior Committe Cup and our Senior Open. Most other clubs will also not allow you to enter open competitions such as Senior Opens.
To make your handicap active you will need to play three qualifiers or supplementary cards during 2012.
Supplementary Cards

Supplementary cards
From 2012 all golfers can now submit supplementary cards to adjust their handicap. These will require the player to indicate their intention to play such a round before starting to play and will be subject to a handicap increase where the player is outside their “buffer zone”. Handicaps will be adjusted on the same basis as qualifying competitions. A maximum of one card per week can be submitted. The exact details of how this will operate are outlined below..
Please note members found abusing this procedure can be suspended.

Seniors’ Supplementary Scores 2012

1. A maximum of 10 Supplementary Scores may be returned each handicap year.

2. Supplementary Scores are Stableford scores, which may only be returned at the Home Club of the player, subject to the above limit.

3. Supplementary Scores are available to all players.

4. A maximum of one card per week may be returned (A week commences on a Monday).

5. The round must comply with the Rules of Golf and the completed card must be counter signed by a playing partner who has a recognised handicap.

6. Supplementary Scores are now available to players in Categories 1, 2, 3, 4 [and 5].

7. Players must register their intention to take out a Supplementary Score before going out to play. To do this collect a stamped and dated score card from the Pro shop and enter your name in the Supplementary Card Book.
RETURN YOUR SIGNED CARD TO ROGER STONE ASAP.

8. Play must be over a Measured Course under Competition Play Conditions. No CSS to be calculated. Changes of handicap to be against the SSS.

9. Supplementary Scores are for increase as well as reduction of handicap.

10. Stroke Play returns shall be subject to Stableford/Nett Double Bogey adjustments (maximum net double bogey on any hole) in compliance with Clause 19 before the card is used for handicap adjustment.

11. Supplementary scores are recorded in your Player Handicap Record.

12. Players who have recently been awarded a CONGU handicap qualify immediately for the return of Supplementary Scores.

13. Remember a 0.1 increase should be applied when a player does not return a score after signing their intention to use the round for a Supplementary Score.

14. Returns may be subject to action under Clause 23 if ‘manipulation’ is suspected.

CONGU Handicap Calculations

How your Initial CONGU golf handicap is calculated

To calculate your first (initial) golf handicap you need to enter three golf cards. The computer system will then assess your 3 cards to determine which one will provide the best Nett Differential Score (NDS); essentially this is done by reducing any holes that are greater than 2 shots over par to being 2 shots over par, for example, if you have entered an 8 on a par 5 then, for the sake of this calculation, the system will read it as a 7.
Although CONGU rules does not put a limit on the number of holes that are reduced, most systems limit it to a maximum of six holes to ensure that they only provide handicaps to players that they feel can play to 28.0 or 36.0, at worst. If the system fails to calculate your handicap it is because the maximum number of adjusted holes has been reached. In these situations cards can be reviewed manually to assess if it is possible to provide the maximum handicap.

Let’s assume that 4 holes have been adjusted to double-bogeys (2 over par) resulting in a total reduction of 5 shots for your round. If your gross score was 95 then the resulting Nett Differential Score would now be 90. To calculate the handicap based on this card the course SSS (Standard Scratch Score) is then subtracted from the Nett Differential, for example if the SSS (for the tee colour in question) is 67 then it would be 90 - 67 = 23. This calculation is applied to all 3 cards to determine which one gives the lowest golf handicap, this then becomes your golf handicap.

Note: the Course Par plays no part in the initial golf handicap calculation.

How your CONGU golf handicap is adjusted ongoing

Golf handicaps are divided into 5 categories as shown here, each of these categories has a respective buffer zone that is used to assess whether or not a handicap should change. The table below displays the categories along with relevant Adjustment Factors.

Each time you enter a new card in a qualifying competition it is your responsibility to adjust your golf handicap. You must then immediately play to this new handicap until at a later stage a Competition Scratch Score will be calculated from all category 1 to 3 cards from the competition and used instead of the Standard Scratch Score to produce a final adjusted handicap. All changes will then be published on the Senior Notice Board.

So how do you do this? Depending on which Category you fall in to a Buffer Zone and respective Adjustment Factor is applied, essentially this allows you to enter cards that are higher than your Handicap without your handicap being increased. To demonstrate how this works, please study the two examples shown below.

Examples of adjustments:

Lets assume that your golf handicap is 17.0 (Cat 3) and the card that you entered was with a gross score of 87 and the SSS for the tee colour is 67, in this case your net score would be 3 shots (87 – 67 = 20) above your handicap . As your Buffer Zone allows you to be between 0 and 3 Shots above your handicap (17 + 3) then no adjustment is made. If your gross score was 89 resulting in your net score being 2 shots higher than your Buffer Zone, then your handicap would increase by 0.1, which is the Maximum increase allowed. However, if your gross score was 82 with course SSS of 67 resulting in your net score being 2 shots below your handicap (82 – 67 = 15) Then your are below the Buffer Zone of zero so an adjustment is required. The adjustment would be the number of shots below handicap x the Adjustment Factor i.e. 2 x 0.3 resulting in a cut of 0.6 shots. Your new Exact Handicap would now Be 17.0 – 0.6 = 16.4 giving you a Playing Handicap of 16.

Emergency Cancellation for Wednesday Competitions

Farrington Seniors often need to cancel their entry into Wednesday Competitions. Presently they do this by crossing off their name on the notice board. Problems however frequently arise on Wednesday morning when there is a last minute emergency.

Ray Vickers should now be contacted on his mobile phones after 8.00 a.m. on Wednesday morning when such occasions arise:-

Ray's mobile number: 07812859229

It is clearly most helpful if people avoid dropping out of team games wherever possible. By not turning up you leave your partners without an opportunity to compete, and you owe it to them to delete yourself from the competition as soon as you know you are unavailable. Ray can arrange substitutes but he clearly needs as much warning as possible.
The preferred means of cancelling are:-

  1. To cross off your name on 'the competition list’ before Monday.
  2. To ring Ray at home before Monday - tel: 01761 416749
  3. In an emergency to contact Ray or the days organiser by 8.00 on the Wednesday morning.

The new number for cancelling on the day is 0781 2859229
AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED ON MATCH DAYS.

He asks that you do not use this number for cancellation purposes on any other occasion as the phone probably will not be switched on.

The committee have indeed discussed sanctions that may need to be applied if senior members fail to turn up without cancelling. Thankfully this a rare occurrence but it does happen. We owe it to Ray (and other members) to make it easy for him to do his job by

  • Turning up well before tee off time and registering (15 minutes)
  • Informing us if you are unable to make your tee time

We are anxious that all Farrington Seniors can continue to enjoy Wednesday Morning Competitions so please do your bit to help.

Hole in One Kitty

Congratulations to Eddie Cheasley for a hole in one during the Dave Sherborne Trophy on Friday 24th Sept 2010. In the match against the ladies he fired his tee shot on the 9th hole straight down the hole. A shot of brandy was enjoyed by the majority of the 36 competitors.

Congratulations to Charles Romaine for a hole in one on the tenth green (temporary) during the Ray Dando Trophy 2001. A glass of whisky was enjoyed by all 48 participating contestants. A fitting event for the first pay out of this kitty!

Congratulations also to Derek Piggott for a hole in one on the fifth during the May 2002 monthly medal. A full house of seniors toasted his success.

Congratulations to our present Captain, Roger Cockhill for a hole in one on the fifth (temporary) during the greensome on 5th February 2003. He is maintaining the tradition of the Senior Captain holing in one during his year of office.

Congratulations to Tony Bridges for a hole in one during his Summer K.O. round on the 9 hole executive course 2004.

Congratulations to Jeff Kelly for a hole in one on a par three at Alhaurin, 12th March 2006. All 24 Spanish tour members toasted his success.

Congratulations to Maurice Sanders (fresh back from Australia) for a hole in one during the senior match at Farrington on 4th May 2006 against Brean. All the seniors toasted Maurice with a tot of whiskey.

3rd Octoberr 2007: Congratulations to Geoff Moore for his hole in one on the14th hole.

November 2007: Congratulations to Richard Curtis for his hole in one on the on the 8th hole.

April 2008: Congratulations again to Charles Romaine for a hole in one on the 8th at Farrington during a match with Woodspring. I guess they won that hole?

May 1st 2008: Congratulations to Colin Robinson for a hole in one on the 15th - also a nearest the pin hole. With 70+ seniors we drank our way through two bottles of whisky to toast his achievements.

February 17th 2009: Congratulations Eddie Cheasley for a hole in one on the 15th - we also shared a bottle of whisky.

June 23rd 2010: Congratulations to Charle Romaine for a hole in one on the 8th green during a Tennessee Waltz Competition. Makes his total of hole in ones now 4.....lucky fellow.

ALL the above have greatly appreciated being members of the 'Hole in One Kitty' .

  1. If you are skilful or lucky (unlucky) enough to manage `hole in one` and of course happen to be a popular fellow as well, then it could cost you a few bob once you have made it back to the bar – not straight to the carpark and away!
  2. With this in mind the committee have included, as part of your subscription, a seniors Hole in One Kitty, working along the following lines.
  3. It was agreed that the basis on which a hole in one should count is:-
  • The event must be an official Farrington Seniors sponsored event
  • It must be one in which all members can choose to play
  • Events can be either at Farrington or elsewhere
  • A maximum of £60 can be claimed for your bar bill

It will therefore include all Wednesday morning competitions, knockouts and Away Days, BUT not Matches.

Xmas Competiton - Wednesday December 8th 2010

Congratulations to ex-Captain Chris Standen for winning the Ray Dando Trophy 2010 with 28 stableford points. The competition took part on a very cold and difficult day on the 18 hole course (holes 6 to 18 only, excluding hole 12) and followed the usual format of three clubs plus a putter.

48 seniors attended the match and 75 the meal in The Montgomery Suite. Mike Astle and Tim Waller presented the prizes to the medal and main competition winners. Everyone returned home happy and content after a great evening. Special thanks was extended to Ray Vickers for his organisational efforts on Wednesday mornings.

Competition Rules

St Andrews Royal & Ancient - Home of Golf

In the completion of the score card it is the players responsibility to ensure the correct gross score has been entered for each hole.
It is the committee’s responsibility to ensure the arithmetic is correct.
Ensure your card has the correct HCP and is signed by both player and marker to avoid disqualification.

It is permissible when cards are handed in for members to discuss with the committee details about scoring and for the committee to point out omissions (e.g. card not signed correctly), but once the member leaves the card with the committee it is too late and any further errors can lead to disqualification.

PLEASE HAND IN YOUR CARD IMMEDIATELY ON COMPLETION OF YOUR ROUND. This enables Ray or the committee to check cards and avoid delay with announcing the results.

Suggestions to give teams with only two players an opportunity to compete:-

A wild card player will be randomly selected by the committee. The wild card player will be told to putt out on every hole. At the completion of the round the two ball competitors will use the wild card players score to calculate the team score for their round. This will be managed by the committee in consultation with the twp players. This format will apply to:-

Bowmaker , Multiplier, Tennessee Waltz (with 2 player)

A wild card player will also be used for a yellow ball competition. This wild card player must be one who starts on the same tee. When the wild card player loses a ball he will be asked to indicate this on his card. This player will be allocated the yellow ball on the following basis:-
Yellow Ball (with 2 players)
Player A plays yellow ball on 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16 hole
Player B plays yellow ball on 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17 hole
Wild card player scores yellow ball on 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 hole

Rules for Texas Scramble (with 2 players)
Lowest handicap players handicap used twice to calculate team handicap
9 drives each player
Player A allowed 2 shots (after the drive) on all shots on odd holes
Player B allowed 2 shots (after the drive) on all shots on even holes

Rules of Winter & Summer Knock Outs

These amended rules are being applied to avoid delays previously encountered.

• It is the responsibility of the first named player to contact his opponent within a week of the start date and offer a choice of three dates for their match.
• Failure to contact your opponent within the first week will result in disqualification of the first named player.
• If the first named player has attempted and is unable to contact his opponent or his opponent is unable to agree a suitable date for their match then the Knock Out Co-ordinator must be advised.
• Matches must be completed by the final date stipulated for each round to avoid disqualification.
• The only extenuating circumstances for not completing a match will be ‘course closure’

Please note your Knock Out Co-ordinator for the Winter Competition is:-

Texas Scramble Rules
Handicap Allowance
1/10th or 1/8th of combined team handicap. (Farrington Seniors mostly use 1/8th of combined team handicap)

Tee Shots
Each team member’s tee shot must be used 6 times during the 18 hole round. Scorecards should identify which team member’s shot has been selected at each hole. In the event that the team member’s shot must be used and is driven Out of Bounds or Lost, except in a hazard, then all team members play again from the tee under penalty.

Lie of the Ball (through the green)
Once the selected shot has been played, other team members must drop their ball within one club length of the marked position, but no nearer the hole. This applies regardless of whether the ball is on the fairway, in a hazard, in the rough or on the fringe of the green. In doing so the ball must remain on the fairway, in a hazard etc.

Lie of the Ball (on the putting green)
On the green after the first member has putted, other team members must putt from as close as possible to the position from where the first team member putted, but no nearer the hole.

Holing Out
Once a ball has been holed, no further strokes count.
Scoring Record the gross score.

Stableford Competition Rules

Stableford competitions count towards handicap changes if they meet standard criteria laid down by the EGU. They are usually played off full handicap, but qualifiers are sometimes played to a maximum handicap of 24.
Enter the gross score achieved for each hole in the column corresponding to the players name (should be A).
(Enter the net score in column D—optional)
Enter points scored in right hand column as follows:-

Using net scores
0 points for a score 2 or more over par
1 point for a score 1 over par
2 points for a par
3 points for a score 1 under par
4 points for a score 2 under par and so on

Total points for each 9 holes & enter in the appropriate boxes.
Calculate total points for 18 holes and enter in the Stableford Points Box.

Medalford

The front nine is medal format so score on every hole on the front nine holes and calculate your net score.
The back nine is stableford format so record your stableford score for every hole and total the back nine stableford score

Calculate : front 9 net score – back 9 stableford score for your final result.

The lowest score is the winner.

e.g. Calculation: Your HCP is 19 and your gross medal score on the front 9 is 45.
Since you get 10 shots on the front nine and 9 on the back nine to calculate your net score subtract 10.
Net medal score = 45 – 10 = 35
You score 21 stableford points on the back 9.
Your final result is 35 – 21 = 14
